Open beta is over – and apparently with a fun, all-be-it disorganized, bang. Now the waiting for Friday begins.
In the meantime – what class will you play and what ships will you use in the actual game?
I’m torn. I really like Attack Pattern Alpha, the space-based ability Tactical officers get at level 8. It does exactly what I want a power to do: increases my damage and my turn rate. Excellent utility. I also like the first tac officer ground ability, Target Optics. That does what I want a ground ability to do to: a chance to expose, plus a damage increase modifier.
However, I really don’t like Tactical officer’s kits. Maybe if I’d been able to try a stealth kit out, I’d have been happier. As it stands, building turrets and shield generators as an Engineer is really appealing.
In space, I’m going to mix between escorts and science ships, based really on which model I like. The Nova-class (T2) science vessel looks great, and the Akira-class escort (T3) is my all-time favorite Star Trek ship, so that’s a no brainer. I also really like the Luna-class science vessel (T4). I think the Engineer’s space abilities would help both types of ships really well – keep the shields alive, and reroute power all over the place.
The last thing is: in my mind, all of the captains are Tactical officers. I mean, Kirk is definitely a “shoot first, shoot more later” type of guy (this video really sums it up), and come on, all the other captains wear red!
Anyways, I’d really love to hear what all of you guys are going to be playing as.
